Goodbye and Hello!: Two New Interns at Peak to Peak Counseling

After a successful year with Lynn Harnack as our first Naropa Counseling intern, Peak to Peak Counseling has accepted two new interns to provide sliding scale counseling sessions to our mountain community. Moon Myerson and Gen Morley will volunteer with Peak to Peak Counseling during the final year of their Master’s degree after most of their core classes have been completed. In return they will receive real-world experience, extensive free training and clinical supervision throughout the year from Amy Hartman, Director of Peak to Peak Counseling. They will offer counseling sessions on Fridays and Saturdays at a rate that fits into any budget, plus you will see them volunteering throughout the community. As you see them out and about please make them feel welcome!

I, Gen, received a BA in Human Development & Education from Prescott College. In the decade between completing that degree and beginning my Masters in Counseling Psychology at Naropa University, I worked a great deal with children and families in a wide spectrum of support and facilitation roles. I also completed a Post Baccalaureate Premedical Program and worked intimately with patients in hospital settings before deciding that connecting with people was really the part of medicine that inspired me. During my Master’s program, I have had the chance to explore the breadth and depth of psychotherapeutic theories and teachings. My style has thus evolved to focus on what people experience in their daily lives, trusting that any unresolved events needing attention will show up. I believe that when we are able to be really clear about what is going on for us, our options for more satisfactory living are possible. I have spent a fair amount of time in the Indian Peaks and in Ned. I’ve been drawn to this area for a long time both for the small community and because of the natural environment. In my free time I like to be outside, ideally playing on my bike, cross-country skiing or just walking through the woods. The Indian Peaks have been the back drop for many of my better days in Colorado and I feel honored to be part of the Nederland community in a more formal capacity.

Although I, Moon, live in Boulder presently, I hail from the mountains. I spent my childhood growing up on the Western Slope and am a past resident of Nederland. I love small mountain towns––the creativity, sense of community, and unique mountain culture. I received my BA from Naropa University in 2007 in Writing and Literature, while simultaneously developing my skills as a filmmaker and videographer. After graduating, I started a film production company. At the same time I began working at Windhorse Community Services, a mental health agency, where I began to develop my interest in psychotherapy and psychology. As I got more involved at Windhorse I felt fulfilled by the work I was doing; I decided to step out from behind the camera and pursue a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology at Naropa University. My time in school, and experience during my practicum, has introduced me to a number of therapeutic modalities and areas of study such as dream work, gestalt therapy, and mindfulness based psychotherapy. I’m thrilled to be starting my internship at Peak to Peak Counseling and am looking forward to getting involved in the community!
