Clinical Supervision and Community Internship Program

Clinical Supervision

Supporting your successful counseling career by providing the opportunity to enhance clinical, business, and personal-growth skills.

Community Internship Program

Peak to Peak Counseling partners with local universities to provide an internship and practicum site for students.

Clinical Supervision

Drawing from a strong foundation of diverse psychological theories we offer clinical, business, and personal-growth skills designed to support your successful counseling career.

Whether you are in the beginning stages of earning your post-graduate licensure hours, building your private practice, or are a seasoned psychotherapist looking for a professional sounding board, Peak to Peak Counseling has been offering supervision support since 2012.

To facilitate your professional growth and foster your therapeutic competence, Amy offers a supervision model focusing on the roles of teacher, psychotherapist, and consultant.  Her teaching role will assist you in learning administrative functions, techniques and skills.  She’ll step into her psychotherapist role when your thoughts or feelings are activated by the client to the point where they may interfere with the efficacious treatment of the client.  (Any intervention, however, will be limited to treatment-related issues, as ethically Amy cannot provide therapy for you as part of your supervision).  Finally Amy’s consultation role will be used for case review and discussion of areas of uncertainty in theory and your practice of counseling.

During supervision Amy will help you focus on the following areas in counseling: process, awareness, conceptualization, and administration.  Process skills comprise learning specific techniques that can assist in your overall success with your client.  Awareness refers to the effort to be mindful of those aspects of your experience that relate to you as a person and the impact of these between you and your client.  Conceptualization focuses on how you think about, plan for and analyze your cases, especially as you relate to specific counseling theories.  Administration covers all other aspects of counseling such as case notes, ethics, licensure, and business practices.

Amy will use case review, role-plays, simulations, and other interactive and experiential learning modalities. Your part will include reflection in (1) the counseling process of your client sessions, (2) you as a counselor, and (3) the profession of counseling.

Amy Skinner, Clinical Director of Peak to Peak Counseling, has been an Approved Clinical Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist – Supervisor ™ since 2015.  After meeting considerable certification requirements, Amy continues to attend Supervision trainings around the country while teaching and supervising students and supervisees up and down the Front Range and around Colorado.  Additionally, Amy has served on the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Licensed Professional Board (LPC) Board from 2020-2024 and served as the Chair of the Board from 2022-2024, helping the state of Colorado keep counseling clients safe and professional counselors accountable, which offers her a unique supervision perspective.

Philosophy

Peak to Peak Counseling is dedicated to honoring every person’s life and history, genetic and cultural inheritance, physical, emotional, and spiritual experience in a carefully cultivated environment optimized for health, healing, and wellness.

Free Thirty Minute Initial Consultation

The free initial consultation is an opportunity for you and Amy to determine if your supervisory relationship is going to be a good fit. Together you will discuss your goals, hopes, challenges, and gifts. It’s also an opportunity to ask Amy any initial questions you might have. After the discussion, if it seems like a good fit, you’ll make an appointment for your first session.

Community Internship Program

Peak to Peak Counseling provides internship and practicum opportunities for Colorado’s advanced degree students.

Since 2012, Peak to Peak Counseling has partnered with a wide variety of universities to provide an in-person internship and practicum site for students during their master’s degree programs. In return, student candidates receive real-world experience, extensive free training, and supervision throughout the year from Peak to Peak’s Clinical Director Amy Skinner, MA, LPC, NCC, ACS, RPT-S, and Business Director Richard Brandon.

Drawing from a strong foundation of diverse psychological theories and a supportive clinical supervision and mentorship model, Peak to Peak can offer you a comprehensive educational experience. You’ll learn clinical, business, and personal-growth skills designed to prepare you for a successful counseling career.

As a Peak to Peak Counseling intern, you’ll provide in-person counseling sessions at a sliding scale rate and work with schools and community non-profits in the area.

Information for Applicants

At Peak to Peak Counseling, you’ll experience that each client’s physical, emotional, and spiritual experiences, lives and histories, and genetic and cultural inheritances are uniquely valuable.

Drawing from a variety of theories and techniques that fit each client’s specific life circumstances, you will learn to create a holistic therapeutic experience optimized to promote healing.

As an advanced degree student, meeting your specific school requirements, you will have the opportunity to provide sliding scale counseling services to underserved community members in need. Individuals, couples, families, groups, children, teens, and adults come through our doors requesting psychotherapy, and local organizations such as the food bank, teen center and schools appreciate on-site support.

Learning and implementing counseling techniques, treating diverse populations, and exploring your therapeutic identity are cornerstones of your clinical experience.

Clinical Director and supervisor Amy Skinner, along with Business Director and supervisor Richard Brandon, foster a challenging educational experience by providing:

  • trainings by local experts
  • group supervision with current videos
  • opportunities to develop and provide psycho-educational trainings
  • a real-world experience of acquiring and executing necessary business skills

We are looking for students who share our vision, demonstrate solid clinical skills, bring applicable life experience, and exhibit a strong commitment to serving our unique mountain community.  Peak to Peak Counseling works with colleges and universities around the country and accepts student applications on a rolling basis.
